I'm trying to find a course that you can get an NVQ 2 qualification in nails in London.. Please help!?

I need the course to be a short intensive course, so NOT one evening/day a week for a year/a few months etc.


I need something that is every day for a few weeks or a couple of days a week for no more than a month etc.





Anyway Please if you know of a college or beauty centre in london where they do this sort of course please let me know.





I know of the carlton institute in Windso,r which ticks all the boxes as in you get an nvq 2 and its a one week intensive course, but I was looking for something a little nearer - i live in middlesex. I seem to be having no such luck as the courses I seem to find are either a year course full or part time or they are the right time scale but not an NVQ qualification.

best bet is to have a look online. There are loads of places that offer home courses in nails, but they are very expensive. If you are under 19 years old, you are still entitled to free education, so apply at your local college and get trained properly for free. If you are over 19, then you could still try your local college. The only problem with learning at home is you are learning from video's/dvd's rather than someone with you giving you advice there are then.

its normal, that means theres a fungal infedction but its very minor and very common, its underneath the nail so it cant spread, and if you really dont like it there are precription pills to take which will clear up nails in about 3 to 6 months, but they're purely cosmetic because the fungal infection does no harm whatsoever.My Boyfriend is a clean fellow, and of course, showers regularly. this is a disease of the onyx( nails) there are ways to treat it.. as i can't see what they look like.. he could have them bleached. but as stated earlier it is a keratin deficiancy. have him take vitaimins with keratin. this will help in the long run.. but as for this minute you can have them bleached or you can paint them for him.. to cover it but nail polish stains nails too. so. best luck would be the vitaimin

He could have a toe fungus. The only way to find out is to see a doctor. There are topical medications as well as oral antibiotics such as sporonox to help treat it. It does not necessarily mean that a person has poor hygene, he could have picked up the fungus in a gym shower/locker room.

s a see thru light yellow then it's probably do to a need for more Calcium.
are his eyes a little yellow too? if so he could have jaundice which can mean some very serious things are wrong with him. he could have a disease like hepatitis and not know it, so i would check into that if it could be a possibility. and yes, if they are just yellow make sure he is getting sun light and oxygen to them by wearing sandles every now and then (yes, sunlight and oxygen do help), get him a pedicure, and go buy a fungus remover from the drug store, even if its not that bad it can still help.
Probably a fungus infection, just not as advanced as the deformed ones. Another possibility is that his socks dye his toenails. He should see a doctor, because the sooner he treats a fungus infection, the easier it is to get rid of.

umm if he keeps his toes cut really low then it will fade away other than that ur toe nail is a natural grown fungus...all those commercial medicines dont work he has to keep trimming them....sorry

It may be a fungal infection. Take him to a dermatologist who can prescribe anti fungal medication and then cream to soften the nail. It will then just grow out and normal nail will come through.

Sounds like he has a fungus. If they aren't thick or misshapen, he hasn't had it for too long. If it is bothersome, have him check with a Doctor or Podiatrist. There are also over-the-counter meds you can use. I cheated, I soaked my feet in Listerine, killed it, but I had blue toenails til they grew out. LOL! Now they have the Citrus flavored stuff. It's orange! I would still have had yellow-orange toenails! Besides, I have found that guys have this ';If it's not broke, don't fix it'; thing going for them. Good luck in clearing things up!

I did my course through correspondence, its cheaper and you can work as fast or as slow as you want, you can send in written or on-line essays/assignments.. You pay for your course in instalments each month and they even help you with 24hours tutor help.. I know that the correspondence school I went through has Nail Technology Certificates.. The best thing to do is look at them on-line or call them directly..


They are called Thomson Education Direct and they are located in Victoria..Their certificates are all accredited so you can work in other states too.. Some courses offered by other schools aren't recognised in other states so being nationally accredited is a huge bonus, and they aren't overly expensive, paying by the month is easy on the hip pocket instead of having to fork out the full amount all at once..

Who told you that fake nails would be good for your real nails? The manicurist? Hmmmmmmm.........





As a matter of fact, acrylics are not good for your real nails because they do not let your nails ';breathe.'; And when you get them taken off, layers of your real nail will end up coming off with it too because they have to scrape off the residue and your own nail will be injured in that process.





You can get your own nails healthy with good nutrition and and a good quality multivitamin. If you have some problem, like ridges or spooning, then that indicates some deficiency that needs to be addressed!





If you still insist on an artificial nail, try a silk wrap. It lets more air in to your nailbed.I hava fake nails, and of course my real nails are growing, but how come they seem to be brittle underneath?..

they're brittle because they're not ';breathing';. Believe me when you have acrylics you need to take a break from them every few weeks to let them get stronger
Have them put on a nail hardner. I really think your nails are weak from the constant glueing an unglueing of the fake nails.
Your nails are brittle due to the chemicals you put on them. Nail polish, nail polish remover, glue, etc. This stuff spreads to your nail matrix. Your diet might also play a role.





It's funny to me that women commonly call men liars, but then they:





- fake their nail length


- cover themselves with makeup


- wear high heels to fake being taller


- wear push up bras to fake having bigger breats


- wear girdles and ';control panties'; to fake being lighter or more shapely

fake nails suck they make the real nails weak. take them off and let ur real nails breathe. then put some nail polish on it and believe me they will grow.
your nails cannot breathe its a like everything it needs time off--as in no false nails. water can go under and fungas grows
ask them to put a nail strengthener base on your nails next time you have a fill in
I know lots of ladies that have that same problem. seems those chemicals on nails does major damage.... at least that is what it seems to me.

In Nova Scotia, the NSCC (Community College) offers a Cosmetology course, one beginners and one advanced. You only need a high school diploma for Nail Technology. It is a 20 week long program, including classroom and salon lab and a work experience. I am sure that any community college would offer similar programs in your area. But as the person above said, generally no 4 year college/university will offer such a program. A great idea would be to ask your nail artist (I guess that's what they'd be) where he/she got their certification and go along that route.I want to know if your college have course on beauty and nails?
try to look in your local area for a technical college.....most 4 year colleges and universities dont have this program.....this is considered a technical skill.....also ask your own beautician or barber where they went to learn their trade and they may tell you and lead you in the right direction......good luckI want to know if your college have course on beauty and nails?
There is a technical college in my area- Opelousas, LA that offers a cosmetology course. They cover beauty, nails, and even hand massages... But I don't think they have any online stuff if that's what you're really looking for...

I see from your screenname you are from Spain. I am not sure of what is currently the law there but here in the states you need a license to do nails not a certificate.


Learning from home courses arent used here in the USA for this course when you need to take a written as well as a practical test in your state.





I don't get how you will learn properly without feedback from a teacher for the application procedures in the various forms of doing nails. The course looks good but you need practice in person so you can get feedback what you are doing right and wrong with the various products you will be learning about. The book smarts about the in's and out's of products, sanitation, nail disorders etc maybe good but its not as good as learning in person.





Its not as easy as it looks. Especially with the light cured UV gels and Acrylic nails and sculpturing with a form. Doing nails in general as especially in any artificial nail product requires allot of knowledge and allot of troubleshooting as clients nails can be rather tricky and you have to formulate an application that will fix a problem on a client.





I know in various countries in Europe they require different things regarding your experience as well as training as well the practice of nails is different as what products they use and what services they provide. Good Luck though.

If any of your local colleges offer Beauty Theraply courses they should offer it to you on a part time basis ie one day a week for 2 years. Most colleges will offer General Nails route into beauty therapy - either at svq level or HNC/D. You should try phoning the student information centres at your local college. My advice is to remove this question and pretend you never asked it. If anyone from your course, any of your instructors, or anyone from your nail board sees this you WILL lose ALL of your hours and be banned from practicing in your state. Asking for test answers and information is considered cheating and is against the rules. Nail Technician course for at home?

I work full time but love to be learning new things. I really want to do a nail technician course but don't have the time to go to college or a night course so want to do a home learning course that is felxible enough to fit around my lifestyle. Before shelling out for any home learn course I'd contact some insurers to find out what courses they do accept. Personally I dont think home learn courses are good enough. You need to know the a%26amp;p of the arm and hand. Contra-indications of treatments. You need to do a set of nails with it being evaluated by a qualified person then that set of nails needs to be infilled 3 weeks later...that just doesnt happen at home. You are not going to be getting the feedback to pick up your faults etc. A night course is one evening a week for a year. If you cant fit that in your life then when would you be able to fit in doing home course? At least the same amount of time per week would be required.

Certified nail technicians are licensed to provide manicures, pedicures, coloring, and extensions. With all the advances in artificial nail products and the chemistry of nails that are needed. You do need to attend to some kind of college or Prep School for that specific career, depending on the college it can take a minimum of six months or up to 1-2 years. To get the nail technician certification you usually need a certain amount of hours on the job without a pay- the hours depend on the state that you are living in. I do believe that there are courses that you can take online for that career.

this career can be very profitable once you have set up a client base, i trained with star nails, you have to have a basic knowledge ref. manicures, they will train you to put on acrylic and gel nails, and also some basic nail art. i found my course through the local beauty college.

Actually, the company is now known as CND. They changed that only recently - during the past year or so. If you have no training, then you need to be looking at getting into an accredited nail training program prior to taking any educational offerings from any of the professional nail companies such as CND and others. Once enrolled in a program, you can then take classes with CND. They prefer that you are first licensed, but they do acept students into their classes. But, you wouldn't really would have a difficult time understanding the class material until you have learned the basics. And the way to do that - of course, is by enrolling in a nail training program. In short, that is where it all begins. Look in your area for one, I'm sure that there is somethign available. Many cosmetology schools have seperate nail programs, as do some community colleges. There are also schools that teach nails and nothing else. Sure, they aren't much fun and it really depends on the particular school, but most don't teach you a whole lot more than what is required to pass your state boards (licensing). The quality of education you receive varies widely from school to school, with some being much better than others. Look into as many as you can before deciding on any one particular program. If you are a beginner, take all the classes you can find. You won't learn much in beauty college ( at least I didn't here in California). Also, find a seasoned professional that might be willing to mentor you.

Hi Ive been a beauty Manager for 7 years and to be honest it doesn't matter. I would say that Gel is the easiest to start, but once yo have cracked it you will be able to do acrylic and fibreglass no probs. Essential Nail Course... Good or bad?

I am looking into a home learning nail technician course and have previously asked for ideas and feedback on this with little luck.





I have discovered a couple of courses but that are all assessed by written papers. I want something more practical but am unable to commit to an evening class as my free evening vary each week. Has anyone done a course with Essential Nails that can let me know how they found it?

Having done college courses and home learn with essential nails and now working with them as their student support coach, i would recommend them for any one who can't get out to college or busy family life, the courses go through everything you would learn at college health and safely, anatomy, nail disease working with chemicals and more , then you have the test papers that show us how you are taking in all this information and the practical side, it is a fully recognised qualification at the end, and you can start your own mobile business or work in a salon it is up to you.

The Essential Nails course is ok, it's ideal if you cannot travel out to a class, and also if you want to take your time in doing so.





I haven't done the EN course myself, I did a classroom based course with Creative Nail Design, I did however look into doing the home learn EN course though. They teach you via a dvd (not the best way of learning in my opinion), I'd presume the anatomy etc is taught on the dvd and via books. That's the easy part, the hard part is actually working with the products, it looks easy but it's not! This is why working with a teacher in a classroom situation is soooo much better, cos if you need hands on help, it's there!! With EN, if you have a problem, you have to phone them up and ask for help over the phonelinel they can't show you what to do over the phone!!


Removal is nail enhancements is easy, acrylics, fibreglass and silk soak off in acetone, gel is buffed off.





If you did a company course like I did, it's a 5 day course, you do it in the daytime too (mine was 10am-4pm). Yes you do get a written exam with this (Most courses do, they need to check you have nail knowledge as well as the practical skills) but it's very heavy with the practical side of things too!





If this still hasn't changed your mind, the EN course is ok, just lacks hands on help and advice.

Most likely there isn't one since there is a lot of things that they need to test you on, like proper cleaning of tools and making sure that you know what you're doing. The sorts of things they'd need to see you do, you can't just prove that you can answer some questions online.

If you live in the U.S., you will have to pass your state board exams prior to becoming a licensed nail technician. The boards are taken upon completion of your nail training program. It depends on your state, but generally these tests are given only a few times a year - at the most.


Edit: You are going 2 hours a week for 10 weeks? If so, that's only 20 hours in all. My advice is to check your state's requirements for the number of hours you must have completed in training in order to take the boards. It varies but the lowest number of hours I've seen is 100 hours of training - in Massachusetts. Many states require 400 hours or more of training. You can find that information here:

Is your partner working, if not then you should be entitled to income support instead of job seekers. They tried making me claim job seekers just to find that i was entitled to income support the whole time. Ring up or go to your local job centre and find out. If you are entitled to job seekers allowance, your nail course will be funded by your local college and you will also be entitled to £500 maternity grant for your cot and pram. You can make quite a bit as a mobile technician. I work in a nail bar at the moment and we charge 拢35 for a full set of acrylics.





If you build up a good reputation you wont even need to advertise as customers always recommend you to their friends.





It does cost a bit to train but your kit is included in the price and it means you can start getting customers straight away.

yes, if you work as a nail tech the tips are amazing, you can make about 1,000 dollars a week............
I would say yes. I spend alot on my nails. If you can get into feet. I know a lady that goes to like senior centers and charges 30-35 per person for pedicures. She is there for about 10 hrs. With about 20 customers. you do the math!!

How long does a nail tech course typically take?

I would say a good quality cosmetology course would take at least 9 months. For my nail technician, I appreciate not only knowledge, but attention to fine detail, and an ability to listen to what I would like. I like suggestions, but want to work together to determine the best look for me.

Does anyone know of the caledonian therapy academy in glasgow they are doing a 2day course all day is that enough time to learn it? i also have a nail trainer which i go of ebay thats is really good.I want to do a acrylic nail extension course?
I have not heard of that course before. In 2 days, the most that you can realistically expect to learn is simply an introduction to acrylics. In the U.S., the requirements very in each state, but it normally takes a few hundred hours of training before one is eligible to take the boards, and become licensed. The training programs generally run for about 4-6 months, depending of a few different things - where you live, how often you attend classes, and so on.


But basically, you should be familiar with all aspects of nail care. Starting with nail anatomy, problems of the nail (infections, and so on), basic nail care (manicures), and eventually you move on to acrylic application. It takes a while to learn the basics, and only then are you really ready to actually do the application itself. There really is a lot to learn. If you are really interested in learning how to do nails, and maybe want to do it for a living, then do you have any formal nail education programs where you live? I would recommend looking around, and carefully choosing the right school for you. Not all of them are the same, some are good - or very good - and others are not so good. Take your time, and look at each carefully before deciding on one.





As for the nail trainer, I have never owned one, but I know plenty of people who do. They really are great when it comes to practicing your application skills. I think that you made a good choice by getting the nail trainer! You will love it, I'm sure!

Whats the best nail technician home course to do which will get me a NVQ?

Im looking into studying nails,a nail technician course would be fab.I would go to college and study this but theres no colleges anywhere near where i live that study nail technician.Ive looked into other countys but still no luck,so it will have to be a home learning course i know its going to cost alot more,but this is what i want to do.


Any one studying this can advice me on a good home course.?Whats the best nail technician home course to do which will get me a NVQ?
I strongly suggest you contact your local Information Advice and Information councellor (library or website)





They will be able to offer lots of information so you get to where you want to be in the quickest way possible, including places where you can do on the job training.

You might be able to do a course in the holidays or in the evenings or something, but you since you're under 16 you probably can't do a proper training course to work as nail artist. Hope this helps :)Am i too young to do a nail course?
i am pretty sure that you are too young, because when my mom took the course to become a manicureist or whatever, i wanted to take it too because i loveed doing nails too, but i was only 15 and she said that you have to be like 16 or 18 i forget.

I went to the Nails and Beauty Academy to do my training. I went on a 5 day course called the Masters Diploma in Nail Technology - I learnt LOADS! I enrolled with a some friends and they gave us a 20% discount. There website address is: www.nailsandbeautyacademy.co.uk

home schooling is better if you are a parent and want to save time and the hassle of travelling and classroom learning.





A nail extension course is a great opportunity.


Yes essential nails is great,I once ordered an prospectus from them to study an course but other priorty courses took place..





they are expensive but you really wont learn much as you would at a college.





stick to home you are likely to study better get individual support and advice etc...





also when you seek a employment the employer is likely to be glad that you actually studied in a nail training course than an all purpose college

Right, you can either do the college (nvq) route...which is long and often you're taught wih the lower end products. Or, do what I did and train with a company.





I trained with Creative Nail Design; they have academies all over the world (I did mine in Loughton, just outside of London). It's a 5 day course, you get your kit included, full training is given with a practical and written exam at the end.





You cannot obtain this certificate without applying for your insirance, which is fab cos basically you give them the cheque and they do it all for you through Pro-Beauty. My insurance was roughly 拢35 for a year.





You can of course obtain your own insurance, pro-beauty is the best one I found though.

Everyone who runs a course produces their own certificate.





There is no standard one.





No offence, but you can learn all you need to know in a couple of weeks, it's not rocket science.
The first person is right. You won't have something to worry about. I don't think you need a high school diploma to get into that course, just the money to pay for it.

NSI have done courses here in Spain, my daughter qualified with them. But also check out your local college they may do evening classes and it will be cheaper. My sister lives in Essex and the local college has a separate beauty salon to teach potential beauty therapists.

There are various organisations providing certificate in manicure and pedicure. Some are in-house, some are international. ITE also has a short course in it.

How can you possibly learn to be a nail technician via the internet? My daughter is doing NSI nail courses in Spain and there is no way you can learn these things via internet as you have to do homework practising on clients, take photos and show them to the teacher. All the home study courses are crap, like how to be a yoga teacher, electrician or aromatherapist etc....all impossible without interaction with others. get real, join a real course and learn properly don't waste money with these on line companies that only want your money and nothing else, and give you a piece of paper telling you you're qualified! I wouldn't like anyone doing my acrylic or gel nails if I thought they learned via the internet and don't know anything about the problem side of being a nail technician, including health and hygiene, diseases etc.


Maybe ask at the local college for night classes, they are usually very cheap and you will at least get real professional experience.
I do a bit of woodworking and my hammer cost me 拢5.00 and the nails cost 拢1.50 but I didn't know I was a Technician!

Okay, Im not in the Uk, but am hoping to do the same as you, soon.. Look into Beauty Colleges, in or around your area, they should hopefully offer part-time courses, that you can do at night, a couple nights per week, for how ever long the duration of the course is... Good Luck to you...

I completed a two day intensive nail technician course at Olivia Rogers Nail Academy in Bangor which is just around the corner from the bus and train station.





The tutors are fantastic would highly recommend, when successfully completed you receive diploma cost 拢350 well worth it.

Where can you take nail technician courses online?

I don't think you can. To be a nail tech you must take a written and practical exam by the state board so I'm not sure you can do that on line. SorryWhere can you take nail technician courses online?
I don't think you can. Most states have sanitation laws surrounding manicures, and you have to take the exam after graduating from beauty school.

Is there anywhere near toowoomba qld that teach nail courses?
